Winter Style Police!

Yesterday Mumbai witnessed the coldest day in the last decade and probably in the last fifty years as the temperature dropped to 10 degrees Celsius, but somehow for most people Mumbai and winter don't go together in the same sentence. And most Mumbaikars are laughed at when we refer to the "winter" in Mumbai. So even though Mumbai may be as cold as Delhi on some days you can't walk around in the same winter wear as you would there. Confusing? Its actually very simple, being known as a hot tropical kind of city we just don't have the style license to winter wear. The other day I saw a girl walking around in a trench coat and I was dying to ask her if she was walking to Delhi! I know exactly how you feel coz every morning I am standing in front of my closet and asking myself if this is too wintery for Mumbai. • Funky pants or great looking trousers - So obviously trousers are a good option in this kind of weather but don't restrict yourself to boring black or white pants .Try something new like dhoti pants or palazzos that are super comfy and look great. If your not that daring then try wearing trousers in whatever fit works for you in bold and bright colors.

• Jeans- I know when its cold you just want to feel cozy and you just wear the most comfortable pair of jeans you own.  Most people believe that you can either be comfortable or fashionable but I think you can be both. Move over your skinny and boot cut jeans and try some super comfortable and stylish new styles like jodhpuri jeans, boyfriend jeans or jeans with an elastic bottom that look like joggers. Again if this is all too much for you then opt for colored jeans, I have a great purple pair.

Katie Holmes was the first one to sport the boyfriend jean and now half of Hollywood can't live without their super comfy boyfriend jeans.

• The Maxi- The maxi is back and how! I love this trend because it works for all sizes and shapes and its perfect for this season. You don't need to go to a party in a tiny number and freeze to death, you can wear a chic maxi dress or skirt  and look super sexy, and stay warm. This ones really a winter must have girls!!! If you want to look rocker chic you can even throw on a cool bomber or denim jacket. It even works as a casual day outfit.

• The Blazer- I think every girl must own a blazer. Its one thing you can team with everything!!! It keeps you warm and looks so chic, what more do you want? If you don't own one I suggest you buy a basic back that you can team with a lot of options . I personally love bright colors and I'm dying to get my hands on a sexy fuchsia or coral blazer. Team it with leather brogues for a complete man-style look. The best places to buy blazers in Mumbai are Mango and Zara.

• Cardigan- Cardigans are perfect for the Mumbai winter. They're light and don't make you look like you're dressed for Alaska. Over-sized cadis are everywhere and you can get them in every color or design. So don't be afraid and invest in a cardigan , Im sure you will use it a lot.

• Leggings-They are easy to wear, comfortable and they come in all kinds of fabrics, textures, prints and colors. But please remember whenever your wearing leggings wear long top that covers your crotch and always wear the right underwear! No panty lines please!!!

DON'TS

• Boots- I know when you think winter you think boots but girls seriously this is Mumbai. No knee length boots are meant for walking the streets of Mumbai. Instead opt for ankle length boots or booties which look  great and make you feel like your wearing boots.

• Leather Jackets- Leather jackets are a NO, NO, NO ladies.! I'm sure you have a great leather jacket but save it for a winter holiday.

• Trench Coats- This is another fashion faux pas for Mumbai. Need I say more!!!!

• Mufflers- Don't use bulky woolen mufflers opt for scarves instead. You will be surprised how trendy a scarf can make you look.

• Beanies and Earmuffs- I'm sure your building watchman is rocking this look already! I don't care if your earmuffs are pretty and pink, its still a NO.

Lending my style!!!!

 Styling is something I have always enjoyed but so far its either been me helping my sister with a styling job or just doing some friends a favor. So when ZYNG (Zoroastrian Youth For The Next Generation) asked me to style their annual calender for this year I was obviously a little hesitant. And considering the last one was styled by my style-guru and sister Anaita Shroff Adajania, I had some pretty big shoes to fill! With only two days of prep-time I had to call in a lot of favors from my designer friends and ended up with some great clothes by Shivan & Narresh, Sonya Vajifdar, Nishka Lulla and Shubhika Sharma. I also dug into my closet and packed all my favorite outfits and took off for lovely Alibaugh.  We decided to start the shoot with the beautiful Jenai Kavarana in all gold.We finished all twelve shots in two days and I think everyone has done a great job. Let me take you through all the images  and all the looks we planned.

First up we have our 3 boys Xereus, Rayomand & Rohaan . We wanted this picture to be all about the boys, so we dressed them down and just got them drenched. While we were shooting this picture I though it would be great to put this shot as January coz everyone's expecting to see a nice pretty bawi and then Voila!

Heating up February we have Dina, who I think looks like gorgeous Kamal Siddhu's younger sister. We shot this picture right next to the beach and wanted her to just look young and fresh. Shes wearing a lovely floral top and crochet waistcoat by Nishka Lulla.

Here we have Jenai in all gold. We just put her in this dull gold dress, added some statement jewelry and made her step into the pool. Hot...Hot...Hot!

For April we wanted something floral and summery, so I gave Arnavaz my all time favorite floral maxi and a gigantic flower on her head to complete the look. I bought this dress many years ago from fashion street for Rs 300 and lets just say it never fails to impress. I love how the dress and the flowers in the arch are all merging.

May is one of the hottest months so we got our dare-to-bare bikini model Ellen to heat up the calendar in this hot Shivan & Narresh monokini  with a bright coral colored kaftan over it.

In June we have the pretty pretty Anahita and Rohaan. We wanted to give her something edgy yet glamerous, so I gave her one of my favorites from Papa Don't Preach by Shubhika Sharma.

In July we see Maia in a hot Shivan & Narresh swimsuit worn with black shorts. I love how this looked turned out, love the big hair and the all back accesories.

Dilkhush looks stunning in this Sonya Vajifdar shaded purple gown. We teamed it with this amazing statement necklace which is another street buy ;) I'll let u in on a little secret , we folded the lining of the dress to make it look like it was all net.

In September we have Zenaika and Benisha both in Papa Don't Preach by Shubhika Sharma. I just love the colors in Shubhika's collection , everything just pops! love the acid green and orange together.  We kept the accessories to the bare minimal, just some cuffs and rings.

Here we have the sexy Alyssa looking super hot in this sunset shot on the beach. Shes in a Shivan & Narresh sarong with tonnes of bangles. 

The threesome - Rayomand, Scherezade & Xereus. I actually imaged this look very differently, I initially thought of having all 3 of them in suits like a full blown "man-style" story but unfortunately  my suit did not fit Scherezade,  so I went with my pencil skirt and Forever New waistcoat.  I love the drama that the red tie and shoes add

Last but certainly not the least we have me in a gorgeous Shrivan & Narresh purple and green maxi. Just look at the colors!!!
